And so we come to the tenth ROSWELL HIGH novel, and in BLAKES 7 style, our merry band of boys and girls are all brutally wiped out before we get to the final page.

Okay, I lied.  That was never going to be on the cards, especially given the books' target audience, and after coming this far not even an old cynic like me was going to begrudge them a happy ending.

A few books ago, I'd probably have put money on THE SALVATION involving Max leading Roswell's alien contingent back to their home planet in their spaceship which they'd somehow managed to fix.

However, as the series has progressed that's seemed less and less likely - even Isabel remarks how much things have changed since the events of THE OUTSIDER.

But before we get to the 'salvation' element of things, there's the small matter of tidying up a few loose ends, technically known as the 'plot'.  So we have the aftermath of Adam's death to deal with and, more importantly, Max is still virtually comatose.

So it's left to Michael and Trevor to come up with a plan to get the aliens back home, and eventually they do, much to Maria's obvious disappointment.  Meanwhile, Izzy too has to decide whether or not she should stay on Earth.

Well, after a few scrapes we do get the happy ending that was always the safest bet, but after nine previous books I found myself wanting the six regulars characters to get together and, more or less, they do.

Giving the book a rating almost feels unnecessary.  If you've stuck with the series to this stage, you're going to want to see how things end up, almost regardless of the actual quality.  THE SALVATION isn't the greatest book in the series, but that's probably understandable, and fortunately it doesn't prove too much of a let down.
