When we last saw them (well, in print anyway) at the end of THE WATCHER , Max was dying, Ray was dead and Michael had been captured. THE INTRUDER picks up immediately and, quelle surprise, Max manges to connect to the aliens' consciousness. However, there's then the problem of rescuing Michael to be confronted. Michael, meanwhile, finds that he's not the person in captivity as he meets fellow alien Adam (who's been brought up regarding himself as Valenti's son, the poor sod), and Cameron Winger, a girl with parapsychological powers. But can he trust them? The changed circumstances also put the human/alien romances to the test - Max and Liz are back on, Isabel finds herself thinking more about Michael than Alex and both Alex and Maria would like to know just where they stand. I found THE INTRUDER the least interesting of the ROSWELL HIGH so far. Not that it was particularly bad - there are certainly far worse entries in, say, the BUFFY younger readers' range - but I never really felt that Michael was in danger, and Adam and Cameron weren't nearly three-dimensional enough to hold my interest.
