With the first two books in the series concentrating on Max and Liz and Isabel and Alex, it was pretty obvious that THE SEEKER would focus more on Maria and Michael.

Maria seems to have developed some hitherto unsuspected psychic abilities, although the ring she found at the end of THE WILD ONE might have something to do with it.

After connecting with her cat Sassafras, Maria discovers some previously unsuspected physic talents, and since Isabel was impressed by Nikolas' powers in THE WILD ONE, she reasons that that Michael will be impressed by her newfound abilities. Of course, it could be simply the ring that she discovered at the end of the previous book that's the source of her powers.

Meanwhile, Liz decides that she's not going to wait around in the hope that Max will ditch his "let's be friends" stance and Alex copes with Isabel's confusion in the aftermath of Nikolas' death.

Roswell's alien community isn't doing too well either. Michael tries to adjust to his new foster family, Max mopes around after Liz and Isabel regrets how she treated others after hooking up with Nikolas. The three also discover more about their origins thanks to fellow alien Ray of the UFO museum fame.

Of course, Maria's dabbling with her supposed psychic talents was bound to come a cropper, and it does, with the revelation that her ring has attracted alien bounty hunters, forcing everyone to pull together to save one of the group from death.

Overall, THE SEEKER is another good entry in the ROSWELL HIGH series, which is so far surpassing my initial reluctance to go with the novels. Clearly they were only used as the basis for the TV series, so these are an alternate take on how things could've worked out for the characters, but it's still another enjoyable read.
