Dark Horse Presents #141 Reviewers' note: First of all, a warning - this issue is entirely in black and white, so if you're looking for colour then you'd best go and find something else! But I must say that the one thing that struck me was how good each artist is at drawing the character their story is based on. Now, if they could only draw every character that well... Hello Moon Taking a break from slaying, Buffy thinks she's found some peace until a fish monster shows up. But everything is not as it appears; could there really be good monsters on the planet? Buffy will have to decide soon, as there's a group of vampires around too, and they are all evil!
Art Buffy looks like TV Buffy throughout, and the vampires look like vampires from the show for a change - no more green mutant bat things! Story A modern day Beauty and the Beast tale, this could have been an issue in itself, but as it is I think it's a bit too short to get full marks. Overall The best of the three stories overall, and if it had been in colour it may have got that extra point.
A battle with a group of vampires makes Angel remember things about his past, like how he hurt his best friend after being transformed into a vampire by Darla!
Art Hector Gomez finally proves that he can draw at least one character - Angel - but the appearance of Buffy at the start and finish still prove that he needs to practice his drawing. Story A chilling tale of things to come for Angel fans. Set just before 'Surprise' and 'Innocence', it gives us a chance to see what he is like without his soul. It's also nice to see Darla in the series, even though she never puts on her vamp face. Overall Great story, but they should have left out Buffy. (Well that would spoil the story but Dark Horse could at least get someone else to draw her.)
Awaiting Angel, Buffy finds a sheet of paper written by Giles, retelling his encounter with a man obsessed by bringing his dead wife back to life!
Art Giles and Buffy are drawn pretty well, but Angel lets this story down and Florea seems to be going way over the top with his inking in the parts with Buffy and Angel. Story Hmmm... while it started well, it looked like half the story was chopped off. I still can't figure out the ending. Overall The story was a bit confusing, and the inks are a bit heavy but this neatly rounds off what hasn't been a bad issue. If you have The Origin mini-series and #1-#3 of the regular series then go and buy this. If not find those first; as this is in black and white and I'm sure there will be loads around when the others have sold out. back to the top
