As a DOCTOR WHO fan, I've watched more than my fair share of four part stories, and that's told me that it's often the third part of a story where things stand still. That isn't the case here, although the writers do have the safety net of a length flashback to INNOCENCE to help them out. Even so, Fassbender and Pascoe do a good job. REMEMBER THE TRUTH sees the various elements of the plot starting to draw together: Spike makes a deal with the Japanese vampire, we learn what happened to the "missing" Slayer, and even the apparently pointless subplot about Xander working nights actually proves relevant after all. As well as all that, the on-going plot about Buffy's memories of Dawn also continues. As before, Fassbender and Pascoe take the line that events occurred as we saw them, but with Dawn also involved. So, here we see Buffy complaining about Dawn's criticism of her boyfriends, and Willow pointing out that it's understandable that she's "trauma girl" when it comes to Angel. After all, didn't he try to kill her after he went bad after shagging Buffy? Well, obviously he didn't, but as far as everyone in Sunnydale is concerned, he did. Is it any wonder that Buffy's in danger of going crazy? Art-wise, REMEMBER THE TRUTH is pretty good. The characters might not be identical to the actors who play them on TV, but it's obvious who everybody is. Buffy's dream that opens the comic and the flashback to INNOCENCE are both given different looks (which is "something really unique" according to editor Scott Allie on the letters page), which are quite effective. At the end of REMEMBER THE LIES, I hoped that the third part of this four-parter wouldn't see things taking a dip. That didn't happen, and things are well set for the story to finish on a high.
