STYLE
AND SUBSTANCE
ADDED: 25.09.02. SOURCE: THE NEW YORK POST,
08.09.02
Shiri
Appleby has been acting almost her whole life, but it wasn't
until she dated an alien that she became famous. As Liz Parker
in The WB's sci-fi hit series Roswell, Appleby had a
tortured relationsihp with a hunky extraterrestrial, played
by Jason Behr. The show was soaked up by young viewers but got
cancelled last May. "We suspected it," Appleby told
The Post. "We were in a different time slot all
year."
The
doe-eyed brunette can be seen in the teen thriller Swimfan,
out in theatres now.
"I
love the original Fatal Attraction," said Appleby.
"This [movie] isn't a definite replica, but it has a lot
of similarities."
Swimfan
stars Jesse Bradford, who plays a high school senior with a
promising swimming career, who cheats on his girlfriend Amy
(Appleby) with the new girl in school (Erika Christensen).
Growing
up in LA's West San Fernando Valley, Appleby lived an unremarkable
suburban life, joining the yearbook staff and the student council
while attending Calabasas High School. She also worked as a
restaurant hostess and camp counsellor.
But
another one of her side gigs was commercials - for Cheerios,
Taco Bells, and M&Ms. She also starred in several made-for-TV
movies, and had plenty of guest roles on 7th Heaven, thirtysomething,
ER and Xena: Warrior Princess.
Appleby
(whose first name means "song of my soul" in Hebrew)
made her feature film debut in the black comedy I Love You
to Death, with Kevin Kline, River Phoenix and Tracey Ullman.
Now,
Appleby, 24, is finishing up college after a two-year break,
taking English classes at UCLA.
Q:
You always play the sweet, innocent girl who gets the guy. What
do you look for in a man?
A:
Someone who is honest, easygoing, funny, smart, handsome and
perfect. Someone I can spend the whole day with and then want
to hang out with him at night.
Q:
Are you similar to your character Liz from Roswell?
A:
When I was 18, I was very similar to her. I was very sensitive
and vulnerable. I am still those things ... but she was desperate
to be loved.
Q:
Swimfan
has been described as a teen Fatal Attraction. What's
your character like?
A:
She's madly in love with her boyfriend, and she's a really outgoing,
really outgoing, really vivacious art student.
Q:
Can you make it in Hollywood?
A:
I would love to try out the movie thing. I love the consistency
of TV, but for a little while, I'd like to work with a bunch
of different characters. I'd like to do a comedy. Adam Sandler
is funny, and Jim Carrey is hysterical.
Q:
Describe your personal style.
A:
Really basic. I'm big on flip-flops and skirts and things that
are really clean and form-fitting. I'm think. I like things
that are tighter.
Q:
Favourite designers?
A:
Roberto Cavalli - I just bought a skirt by him recently and
it's beautiful.
Q:
Where do you shop?
A:
All over the place. I like to shop when I travel. When I find
something I like, I buy it. I don't go out to go shopping.
Q:
What do you wear when relaxing?
A:
Thin schmatas.
Q:
Do you follow a special diet?
A:
No. If I have something exciting coming up, I'll watch what
I eat. I dress appropriately so you don't see certain areas.
I'm not one of those lucky girls who wakes up with a flat stomach.
Q:
Do you have any special health or beauty tips?
A:
I put Climatress Redken on my ends. And I moisturise like four
times a day. I'm addicted to it. Especially when it's always
sunny and you come back in and your skin feels dry.
Q:
What was your last splurge?
A:
Ruby slippers from Marc Jacobs.
Q:
What is your most prized possession?
A:
My cat, Abby. She's a tabby I rescued from the pound. BACK

SWIMFAN
IS SURPRISE NO. 1
ADDED: 11.09.02
Swimfan
was the surprise leader at the US box office after taking $12.4
million over the weekend, according to studio estimates.
The
creepy thriller is about a teenage seductress who stalks a high
school swim star.
My
Big Fat Greek Wedding
maintained its hold on second place, earning $10.6 million.
City
by the Sea,
based loosely on the true story of a New YOrk police detective
who learns his estranged son is the prime suspect in a murder,
debuted in third place. Starring Oscar winners Robert De Niro
and Frances McDormand as well as Buffy's Eliza Dushku,
the film brought in $9.1 million.
Swimfan,
a Fatal Attraction for the high school set, stars Jesse
Bradford as Ben Cronin, a high school senior with a sweet girlfriend
(Shiri) and a chance at a swimming scholarship.
He
doesn't see trouble coming because it's hidden behind the cherubic
smile of the new girl in town, Madison Bell, played by Erika
Christensen.
"I'm
ecstatic," said director John Polson. "I think it
surpassed our expectations."
Polson
credited distributor Fox with clever marketing. The film debuted
on the first weekend of the new school year with no big blockbusters
to compete against.
Estimated
ticket sales for Friday through Monday at North American theatres,
according to Exhibitor Relations, are: Swimfan, $12.4m;
My Big Fat Greek Wedding, $10.6m and City by the Sea,
$9.1m. BACK TO THE

SWIMFAN
STARS GET SPLASHY!
ADDED: 29.08.02. SOURCE: TV
GUIDE
Poolside
photo ops, gawking admirers and an excuse to wear as little
clothing as possible ... It's everything Young Hollywood lives
for! Last week's premiere of Swimfan had it all. On UCLA's
sunny campus, camera-lovin' starlets came out to play at a pool
party for the teen thriller, which stars Traffic vixen
Erika Christensen as a college swim champ's No. 1 fan. Of course,
she goes psycho à
la Alicia Silverstone in 1993's The Crush. Tres
campy!
Strangely,
Jesse Bradford - who plays the object of her obsession - arrived
looking like he'd really been assaulted by a stalker. The actor's
nose was visibly bruised, and his forehead and right arm were
bandaged. Did his comely co-star take her ass-kicking role too
seriously?
No,
it turns out Bradford's just recovering from a car accident.
Amusingly enough, he felt the need to inform reporters that
he hasn't filled his Vicodin prescription and only takes Ibuprofen
for pain relief. So much for living on the edge - but what did
I expect at a party that only served virgin piña coladas?
Swimfan's
soirée was light on booze because of all the hot - but
underage - UCLA guys and girls invited to help create "atmosphere."
In the pool, these co-ed cuties drifted about on floats, chatting
and stargazing. Later, they eagerly crowded around the diving
board, which was converted into a makeshift runway for a spicy
Speedo fashion show.
Speaking
on nubile hotties on parade: Leelee Sobieski parked in a deck
chair to screen the "dive-in movie," as did Olympic
gold-medalist swimmer Janet Evans and boyfriend Jerry O'Connell
of Crossing Jordan. Also on hand was Roswell grad
Shiri Appleby - so stunning in a vintage Chloe frock - who happily
previewed her Swimfan role: "I play Jesse's girlfriend,
who gets her heart broken. I'm devastated when I find out he's
cheated on me and everything I've ever believed is wrong. But
I get my man back!"
The
movie's deranged fan plotline felt a bit too familiar to one
guest, Greg Louganis. "Fans' reality is totally whacked,"
he said. "I've had people follow me. Not lately...I'm too
old now! But years ago, when I was still diving, I did get a
note from somebody who said he had watched me wash my car in
my driveway. It's weird to have somebody watching you when you
didn't even know they were there." BACK

LIFE
BEYOND ROSWELL
04.12.2001
- Note this interview from Zap2it.com features some general
spoilers for season 3.
Shiri
Appleby, who plays Liz on UPN's Roswell, knows what it's
like to be out of the limelight.
"I
was in that position for so long," she says, "being
unemployed for periods of time, just being a college student.
It's fun, there's nothing wrong with that. But now, I also have
to accept that people are talking to me for being on TV, not
because or me, because I haven't changed."
The
Los Angeles native says she was in her sophomore year at USC
when she got hired to play the high-school student/waitress
who falls in love with teenage alien Max (Jason Behr), one of
three human-alien hybrids (with Brendan Fehr and Katherine Heigl)
stranded in Roswell, N.M.
Aired
for two seasons on The WB - and in perpetual danger of cancellation
- Roswell has managed to survive, if not exactly thrive.
Picked up last spring by UPN, it now airs Tuesday nights at
9pm ET, right after fellow WB expatriate Buffy the Vampire
Slayer.
"It's
the show that doesn't want to go away," says Appleby. "It's
like The Little Engine That Could."
Asked
if she has a theory on why the show has endured, Appleby says,
"We've been on small networks. I don't think our show would
have survived on an NBC, but I also think we have a really strong
fan base that doesn't want to let the show go away. The only
reason we are still on the air is because of the fans."
While
Appleby has yet to appear at a science-fiction convention, she
has had a chance to meet her fans. "The very first season,
we had a big party that all of the fans on the Internet threw,
and we all went. It was great. We walked around and got to talk
to everybody, meet everyone. They were really nice."
"There
were people of all ages, really young kids, much older people.
I think their only common thing is that they all like the show."
For
the show's first two seasons, Max and Liz were the ultimate
star-crossed lovers, ducking the authorities and their parents
to be together, breaking up, reuniting, dealing with romantic
rivals (including a now-departed fourth alien, Tess) and supernatural
threats. This season, the conflicts have risen to a new level,
with both lovers estranged from their parents and clinging to
each other, as Max seeks mysteries from his past.
That
doesn't mean it's all angst. "I don't think the show is
taking itself quite so seriously," says Appleby. "It's
a little more campy. Following Buffy, which hass that
great sort of quirkiness about it, I think the writers of our
show are trying to blend a little bit of that in. Humour is
good, especially when you're dealing with aliens in high school."
Just
because Max and Liz are ever closer, don't assume they've gone
all the way. "I know she's still a virgin," says Appleby.
"He's not, he slept with Tess, so Liz is the last virgin
on the TV show. I was talking about it the other day in front
of the writers - time to make some changes."
Last
season, Liz's best friend, Maria (Majandra Delfino), slept with
her alien boyfriend Michael (Fehr); this season, Max's sister,
Isabel (Heigl), is invovled with human lawyer Jesse (Adam Rodriguez).
Considering
that Liz has always been the show's "good girl," there
might be a risk in taking her to the next level. "She's
definitely young," says Appleby, "but she's gone through
so much stuff, that I could see how she mentally could be ready
to sleep with Max. I know there are going to be some big surprises
coming in the middle of the season for her, so we'll see what
happens."
So
far, though, Appleby is proud that Liz has stood by her convictions.
"A lot of younger girls, I feel like they look to Liz for
guidance, because she's able to say no to a lot of things. That's
a really uncommon thing for younger girls."
"The
fact that she can take charge, stand up and voice an opinion,
and not be insecure about other people's opinions, it's great.
She's a fictional character that's standing up to a boy at points,
and there's something to be said for that."
"That's
probably one of the things I'm most proud of. When the show
is finished, I'll be feeling good that that character had that
stance. She doesn't like being taken advantage of."
For
now, while Appleby plans to return to college one day, doing
Roswell has given her many opportunities - along with
a best friend. "You don't mess with Majandra," she
says, "on-camera or off-camera. She's probably my best
friend, one of the closest friends in my life. When we're not
at work, we eat a lot, we got to Color Me Mine a lot. It's where
you buy these ceramic vases and paint them. We do those things.
We're just very good friends."
"We've
gone through such a lot, being on a TV show for three years
and having it change things in your personal life. Then having
one person that you don't have to explain to, because they understand
the battles that you've fought at work. So there's such an understanding
there."
Appleby
enjoys acting, but she's not consumed by it. "The first
season and a half, I'd go to Santa Barbara every weekend. I
needed a break. I needed to realise that I'm still a human being,
that I'm noto just this piece of property, that there's so much
more to life."
"Yes,
it's my job. It's a wonderful job. I love my job, but I'm still
a person with other thoughts and feelings."

SHIRI
ET INTERVIEW
18.11.2001
- Shiri's been busy on the chat/interview front recently, as
in addition to her E! Online chat with Majandra, she
was also interviewed by Entertainment Tonight's website.
Here's her spoiler-free comment (her comments about Liz's character
in season three can be found here):
Season
three of Roswell doesn't take place on another planet,
but it does take place on a new network - UPN. Tune in
to watch as Shiri Appleby's Liz experiences another season of
sci-fi teenage angst over Jason Behr's Max.
ET:
Weren't you going to college?
Shiri:
I'm on a leave of absence. I was in my sophomore year
of college when the show got picked up, so I've been on a leave
of absence for the last two years. I was going to the
University of Southern California.
ET:
What was your major?
Shiri:
I was accepted for acting, but I changed to English in my second
semester freshman year. I think I'd probably want to study
psychology.
ET:
What appeals to you about psychology?
Shiri:
Well, it's very similar to acting. It's the breaking down
of someone's psyche, how the human mind works and what makes
people feel certain things, so it's very interesting to me.
ET:
Any other projects in the works?
Shiri:
Last summer I made a film called Swimfan85 - that's the
working title - starring Erika Christensen, Jesse Bradford and
myself. It's a story of temptation, and the consequences
of what happens if you actually fall into it. Jesse and
I play boyfriend and girlfriend who've been together for two
years. This new girl comes into town and things get a
little crazy.
ET:
Do you have a boyfriend now?
Shiri:
No.
ET:
Are you auditioning for one?
Shiri:
Yeah, I'm scoping the territory, seeing what's available.
I'm quite happy being an independent young girl right now.
If someone great came along, I'd be really happy, but if not,
then I'm okay.
ET:
People always think that young actresses have their choice
of anyone they want. But don't you feel sheltered being
on a set all day, and that men are afraid to ask you out?
Shiri:
Oh God, that's such a good question. You don't really
meet that many people because you're so busy working.
And I think young, independent females could be a tad threatening
to men if you're not dependent on them. You can't just
be the girl on their arm.
ET:
So what do you do for fun?
Shiri:
I just went backpacking through Europe for the past two weeks
with a girlfriend of mine. We brought a video camera and
we shot everything. Everyone says, "God Europe, how
was the shopping?" I have no idea. I didn't
walk into a store. We just kind of travelled, met and
talked to a lot of people. I'm learning to play the guitar,
I'm a compulsive backgammon player, I knit, I crochet, go to
the beach, hang out with my friends.
ET:
So what countries did you go to?
Shiri:
Well I went to London, Amsterdam, Paris, drove through the entire
south of France, Santa Margarita and Florence. Then I
rented a car in Monaco, drove from Monaco to Barcelona in eight
hours, and then got on a flight. It was the most positively
profound experience of my entire life.
ET:
So did people recognise you?
Shiri:
Yes, the show is definitely seen around the world. I think
it airs in 22 countries. Being recognised pulled me out
of being just another tourist. It may me realise that
so many people see what I do, and it's not just this thing in
this box.

CHAT SNIPPETS
13.11.2001
- Shiri and fellow Roswell cast member Majandra Delfino
took part in an online chat with E! Online earlier this
week. Here's some of Shiri's comments:
Thank
you for taking the time to answer your fans' questions.
Here is an easy one: Who are you a fan of?
Shiri:
Majandra Delfino. I'm her number one fan.
Your
show is one of the bright spots during this tough time.
Has the September 11 attack affected any of the storylines?
Shiri:
Not that I've noticed.
Majandra:
Not really.
How
does the cast get along?
Shiri:
We all get along really well. It's like a family at this
point.
How
different is filming the show now compared to filming the pilot?
Shiri:
It has totally changed. It's just a different experience
altogether. When you're doing the pilot, there's this
thrill of: Will it be picked up or not? Now things are
more stable.
Do
you have any input when it comes to your character (writing,
clothes, etc.), or do the writers and producers have total control?
Shiri:
The writers have total control. You get to have input
on the clothing, but writers have final say. We get to
keep of the clothes we really like.
What
would you say to someone just starting out in acting?
Shiri:
You just have to be very driven within yourself and not take
anything personally. They're not rejecting you; they're
just looking for something more specific.
You're
absolutely fabulous as Liz! Tell us about a day in the
life of Shiri.
Shiri:
Um, well, a normal work day is like this: We get there at 6am,
have lunch at 1pm and shoot until 6pm. Then I go home
and get some sushi...and that's me.
For
Shiri: What is your plan after Roswell?
Shiri:
To probably audition for other things and maybe go back to school.
I was a sophomore when the show got picked up. All of
my friends have graduated by now, so it's kinda weird.
Is
it really true you are best friends on and off the set?
Shiri
and Majandra: Yup.
Are
you, like your character on Roswell, a romantic fool?
Shiri:
No. I hope not.
Majandra:
Definitely not.
When
will we see you in more films?
Shiri:
I have a movie coming out called Swimfan85. It's
a fatal-attraction story set in high school. It stars
Erika Christenson, Jesse Bradford and Clayton Crane.
What's
in your CD player right now?
Shiri:
Pete Yorn. Dashboard Confessional. Majandra Delfino,
The Sicks. Coldplay. Dave Matthews.
Dashboard Confessional is so good.
What
do you think you have in common with your character?
Shiri:
We're both best friends with Majandra. Besides that, not
much. But she's a pretty loyal person, and I'm loyal.
And sensitive.
Sometimes
I think I'm too old (21) to obsess over a TV show, but I love
Roswell nevertheless. Do you two have any shows
you're addicted to?
Shiri:
I could watch I Love Lucy for the rest of my life.
I like to get the Sex and the City box sets and watch
them over and over.
Shiri,
what was Xena like?
Shiri:
It was pretty cool. I got to go to New Zealand for a couple
weeks. And Lucy Lawless was so fun.

GIRLFRIEND
OF THE DAY
03.11.2001
- Shiri was Maxim Online's Girlfriend of the Day for
Thursday, accompanied by some tasteful pics. Here's the
text of the article (the link is below):
Date
of birth: December 7, 1978
Hometown:
Los Angeles, California
Vital
stats: 5'3"
We
know what you mean: "I hate dishes, and I have a big
problem with taking out the trash, and my roommate hates me.
The trash and me, we just don't get along. The trash and
dishes."
Where
you've seen her: Starring in the cult hit Roswell
and in the movies Deal of a Lifetime, The Thirteenth Floor,
and I Love You To Death. She's the Levi's jeans
girl and has also guest starred on episodes of ER, Beverly
Hills 90210, Xena and Baywatch. She stars next
in the indie film Swimfan85.
All-American,
capitalist girl: She started hawking Raisin Bran, Taco Bell,
Cheerios, and M&Ms in commercials at age 4.
We'll
help overcome her fear of idiots: A neighbour's dog bit
her when she was 6, prompting a lifelong fear of animals.
To overcome her fear she volunteered at the pound earlier this
year and ended up adopting a tabby named Abby.
A
star in training: Many of her early roles were young versions
of famous actresses, including a young Mary Tyler Moore, Sally
Field, and Lucy Lawless.
It's
who you know: At first, Roswell's casting directors
refused to look at her resumé, but she knew the director of
the show's pilot, and he convinced them to give her a chance.
The
original article and the accompanying photos can be found here.

SHIRI
GLAD TO BE BACK
15.09.2001
- Shiri told Sci-Fi Wire
that - despite the fact that Brendan Fehr made it clear he didn't
want to return to the series by not attending UPN's press preview
and from statements by his representatives - there's been no
resulting tension on the Roswell set. "Now
that he's here, we're all friends, so it's still fun,"
she said. "I think everyone is entitled to their
opinion."
But
did she want to return, or was she eager to get on with the
rest of her career? "The show has given me so much
that I sort of prepared myself either way," said the actress,
who did attend the press preview for the Television Critics
Association and who has been actively promoting Roswell
in the build-up to its UPN debut on 9 October. "To
me, the show is my first big, adult job. So if the show
was going to stick around, I was definitely happy to be continuing
with it. And if Roswell was going to go away, I
was also prepared."
Shiri
admits that she did find season two "a little bit frustrating,
but then you just realise that you are part of an ensemble,
and there are a lot of stories to be told. To be honest,
it was nice to have a break for a little while. I found
it interesting to watch Max with another person. And it
was interesting for me to have Devon Gummersall come on the
show, beause it gave me the chance to work with someone else.
But it was a little hard at the beginning."

A
ROSWELL ROSE
04.07.2001
- Four questions for Shiri in the New York Post of 1
July:
Who
are your heroes?
My
younger brother, Evan, because he's got focus and determination.
He's a computer science/engineering major at UCLA.
Is
there a book or movie that has changed your life?
Charlotte's
Web, because it was the first book I ever read and it gave
me a great sense of accomplishment.
What
was your worst day ever?
The
worst day of my life was when I found out I had to be handcuffed
to a chair and put in the deep end of a pool for the movie swimfan85.
What
would you be doing if you weren't doing this?
I
would be in my senior year of college studying psychology.
Shiri
Appleby stars on UPN's Roswell and in the upcoming thriller,
swimfan85.

"FANTASTIC"
SHIRI IN XENA MAG
02.06.2001
- Shiri is briefly featured in the June issue of the official
Xena magazine (she played Tara in Forgiven and
A Tale of Two Muses):
Birth
name: Shiri Appleby.
Nicknames:
I don't really have one. Well, I suppose it's 'Shir':
just drop the 'i' at the end of Shiri.
Favourite
word: Fantastic!
Hometown:
I don't really want to say! It is Los Angeles, but I don't
want to say specifically which part.
Current
residence: I still live in Los Angeles.
Croutons
or Bacon bits? Croutons
Favourite
salad dressing: Gosh, that's a hard one! There are
so many that I like. I really enjoy Ranch dressing, but
then I also enjoy Caesar salad, and I'm now getting involved
with balsamic vinaigrette, so it's sort of a toss-up!
Do
you make fun of people? Wow! That's an interesting
question. In what do you mean, do I make fun of people?
Do
you tease them? To their face? No. No, I don't.
Favourite
colour: Red.
One
pillow or two? Four! I use four pillows. Two
behind and two at the sides. I like to lean on them!
Cotton
or feather: Feather.
Do
you have any pets? Feather.
Favourite
music? My favourite band is Van Harper. Do you know
him over there? My other favourite at the moment is the
Dave Matthews Band. Either of those.
Hobbies?
Photography. And I knit. I'm 21 and I knit!
Favourite
food? Chinese
Favourite
town to take it easy in? Malibu or Santa Barbara.
I love to drive up to Santa Barbara and go shopping on State
Street. It's really, really beautiful and there's a lot
to do there. You start with breakfast in Malibu and then
just spend the day driving up the coast and hanging out in Santa
Barbara. And if you're in Santa Barbara, then of course
you have to spend part of the day at the beach.
Favourite
ice cream flavour? Mint chip.
Favourite
non-alcoholic drink? Coke.
Adidas,
Nike, Reebok or other? I can't answer that! I can't
say any of them because they all give me free stuff!
Favourite
perfume? There's a new one I found, Michael Kors, which
I love.
Favourite
subject in school? English. I'm currently studying
it at the University of Southern California - although I'm actually
taking a break at the moment - and I love to read. I've
just read Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger.
Favourite
sport to watch or play? Gosh, that's hard...Surfing to watch,
although I'm not very good at it. I like being in the
water on a surfboard, but not actually going on the waves.
It's so terrifying! I go out at Malibu Point. I've
caught a wave, but not even head high - it was only small!
I've gone bike riding in Santa Monica, right on the beach.
So I do that once in a while, but I'm really not that athletic.
What
is your most humiliating moment? I don't know. I'm
one of those people...I can never think of these things when
I'm asked! I'm awful! I'm really enjoying this!
Are there any more questions?
Just
one! What is your craziest or silliest idea? The craziest
ever? Wait, I had one the other day (long pause).
What if aliens really did come to Earth? That would be
so wild!

HARD
WORK NOT ALIEN TO ROSWELL STAR
14.05.2001
- Shiri got a mention in New York Post's Starr Report
last week:
The
WB won't announce its fall schedule or the future of sophomore
series Roswell until next week. But that doesn't
mean Roswell star Shiri Appleby (who plays Liz Parker)
is waiting by the phone.
Appleby,
in fact, is busy shooting Swimfan85, a teen psychological
thriller produced by John Penott's Greenestreet Films and Further
Films.
In
the movie, set at a suburban high school, Appleby and Jesse
Bradford play high school sweethearts. He's a champion
swimmer with Olympic aspirations - who catches the eye of a
town newcomer (Erika Christensen). The movie is shooting
in and around New York and New Jersey.
Roswell
is one of the WB's shows "on the bubble," meaning
it might not be back next season because of its iffy ratings.

SHIRI:
"IT TOUCHED MY HEART"
20.04.2001
- Posting
(as 'killercat') on FanForum's posting board, Shiri had this
to say about the recent ad in Variety:
"I
want to thank everyone again for their continual support of
the show. It feels wonderful to be a part of something
that people actually respond to. Working on the show is
amazing and the ad in Variety was like the cherry on
top. I am still in shock that so many people got together
and put their time and energy into it. It touched my heart."

A
TIME FOR DANCING
03.03.2001
- The website
to Shiri's new film A Time For Dancing is now up and
running, albeit still in production. There's not much
there at present, but at least what there is includes a picture
of Shiri.

FANS
PLACE SHIRI AD
27.02.2001
- Roswell fans have been touched by an alien - namely,
Shiri Appleby, says zap2it.com.
A
group of "Applesaucers" (as followers of the actress
call themselves) took out a full-page ad in Friday's Variety,
reading "Thank-you SHIRI APPLEBY for touching our hearts.
You make Roswell MAGIC!"
Zap2it
adds: "fans of the WB's sci-fi/romantic drama are notoriously
rabid: last year they bombarded the network with bottles of
Tabasco sauce - a favourite alien food - when rumours of Roswell's
cancellation began circulating."

SHIRI
AND MAJANDRA ON SEVENTEEN COVER
06.02.2001
- Shiri and her Roswell co-star Majandra
Delfino grace the cover of seventeen's March 2001
issue. Here's a few comments from Shiri:
On
friends: I've had the same friends since elementary school
and junior high. There's a bond that we share because
I grew up with them and I don't have to explain myself.
They know why I'm getting upset about certain things... Guy
friends are great, but having girlfriends that you can really
relate to make you feel complete and they give you confidence.
They watch out for you and help you when you fall.
On
watching Majandra sing: It just shows how many different
sides there are to her. I knew she was musically talented,
but she keeps it private because it's so special to her.
To see her in this different environment shows me how strong
she is. It always shocks me she's two years younger than
I am and so strong and sure of herself.

SHIRI
BECOMES A VET
11.12.2000
- When she decided to pose for the cover of Teen magazine
earlier this year, Shiri decided that she wanted to do something
really cool for the accompanying cover story.

Her
choice was to become a veterinary assistant for the day on the
Animal Planet show Emergency Vets (let's face it, she's
a lot better looking than Rolf Harris!)
Flying
from L.A. to Denver, Shiri donned blue scrubs, mustered her
courage (and love of animals) and assisted Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald.
While
playing doctor, Shiri cuddled the likes of wallabies and snakes,
met pups with ear infections and one that had to be put down,
brought a beloved pet gecko back to life and agreed to write
a diary
about her entire emotional experience.
The
good news is that the UK version of Animal Planet carries a
show called Emergency Vets which is set in Denver, so
let's hope that Shiri's appearance is highlighted before it's
shown.

SHIRI
IN MAXIM
18.05.2000
- The Hot 100 supplement that came with the May issue of Maxim's
US edition (the one with film Buffy Kristy Swanson on the cover)
features both Shiri and her Roswell co-star Katherine
Heigl.
Katie
was listed at number 99, with Shiri at number 51:
As
the luscious Liz Parker on Roswell, Shiri's one of the
few clued-in humans who's hip to the fact that aliens are living
among us. Of course she could tell us that she hangs out
with Elvis and Bigfoot on the weekends and we'd still believe
her.
HEAT
FACTOR: Shiri's out of this world on the WB sci-fi drama.
The
magazine is widely available in the UK. BACK
