BEHR
BARES ROSWELL
30.12.2001 - Jason Behr
told Sci-Fi Wire that he's got mixed feelings about Roswell
and its still uncertain fate. "Roswell is what helped me
get to this point right now," he said in an interview, referring to
the fact that his upcoming film The Shipping News sees him starring
alongside Julianne Moore, Kevin Spacey and Scott Glenn. "I
think the character [of Max] was someone who helped me hone my
craft. I've learned so much from Roswell, from working
[steadily] to trying to develop a character to just the logistics of
it. I wouldn't take that away for anything."
On the other hand?
"When we first started this, it wasn't a job - it was fun," Behr
said. "It was showing up today, working with friends and
telling a good story. I felt really positive about everything.
I told myself the moment it becomes a job, when it becomes work, it's not
worth it anymore for me. There are days [now] when I walk on that
set, and I laugh so hard and have such a great time. But there are
days when it is work. It can be hard."
According to Behr, if UPN
decides to cancel Roswell after episode 13, the episode could be
altered to close out the show as series creator/executive producer Jason
Katims has yet to provide the script to his cast. Regardless of
whether Roswell ends with episode 13, episode 22 or even continues
for another season, how would Behr like to see Max's arc wrapped up?
"I don't know," he replies. "Max dies or, ultimately,
I think he would probably stay on Earth." And what about his
son? "I would hope he would find him. I would hope so,
because he's been working so hard to be that responsible person and live
up to his responsibilities. Even though they might be mistakes, he's
not trying to run away from them. So I'd hope they'd give him that
sort of closure." Back

WANDA'S
EMMY NOMINATIONS
04.07.2001 - E! Online's
Wanda has unveiled a few of "the most robbed, most should-be"
drama Emmy nominees, including Roswell's Jason Behr for Lead Actor:
"If you're laughing,
you probably don't watch. Or maybe you didn't see the finale, when
Behr displayed an emotional intensity that rivaled, perhaps even
surpassed, that of any other recent actor nominees. His gripping
chemistry with unrequited love Shiri Appleby was reason enough to tune in
this season and fight for the show's renewal." Back

THE
ART OF BEING...JASON BEHR
27.06.2001 - The WB will
probably be removing all the Roswell material from its website
before much longer, so there seems no harm in adding their The Art of
Being feature on Jason Behr here.
My
best friend: "My dog, an Akita, is named Ronin. His name
comes from a dark comic book I read as a kid."
Not-so-tall tale:
"Back in junior high school, I looked just like Mini-Me. I came
up to the shoulders of all my friends."
My alter ego's day job:
"I drove a stock car once up at California Speedway. There's
something about the fact that you're that close to death that I really
like."
My dream car:
"A Porsche. The Germans make great cars."
Desert island
must-have: "Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Nothing beats the
original Krispy Kreme."
Unidentified foreign
objections: "Until there is tangible evidence that aliens exist
it's still up for debate."
On the good (working)
life: "Whether I am on the sand on a beach in Tahiti or in
downtown Los Angeles working in the middle of the night, I am happy.
As long as I'm acting, that's the most important thing: to be able to find
a really good story and tell it the best way I can." Back

JOINS SHIPPING NEWS
28.03.2001 - Jason Behr
is headed for the big screen according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Behr is joining Kevin Spacey, Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Rhys Ifans and
Pete Postlewaite in the film The Shipping News for Miramax.
Directed by Lasse Hallstrom (The Cider House Rules, Chocolat),
the project is shooting in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Based on the Pulitzer
Prize-winning best seller of the same name by E. Annie Proulx, Shipping
tells the story of a newspaper reporter (Spacey) who moves with his young
daughter Bunny to his ancestral home on the Newfoundland coast after his
cheating wife is killed in a car accident. While in the quaint town,
the reporter writes the shipping news for the local paper, the Gammy
Bird, as he confronts his private demons and falls in love with a
lonely single mother (Julianne Moore).
Behr will play Dennis
Buggit, a local carpenter battling his own demons and whose estranged
father (Scott Glenn) owns the local newspaper.
Rob Cowan, Linda
Goldstein Knowlton, Irwin Winkler and Leslie Holleran are producing.

IS
HE SINGLE?
20.02.2001 - Jason got a
mention on Marilyn Beck's Eonline column for 17 February:
What can you tell me
about cutie Jason Behr from Roswell? Is he single?
Behr is single, but
beyond that...well, he says he'd rather keep his private life
private. He's aware that fans want to know who he might be dating
but says, "I feel I need to keep something for myself."
The Roswell star is close to his series troupe and to his family -
most of whom have moved to L.A. to be close to him.
Behr moved here from
Minneapolis - where he started performing at age five - right after high
school to pursue acting. And much as he likes his privacy, he
doesn't mind telling us that two of his passions are music and sports.

THE
WB LETS HOT NEW STARS SHINE BRIGHT
From the Houston Chronicle, 1 August 2000:
Note:
contains possible minor season two spoilers.
By Mike McDaniel, Houston
Chronicle TV editor:
Pasadena, Calif. - When
the WB throws a party, all of southern California knows it. Or so it
seems.
Photographers claims
their spots along 100 yards of red carpet. Fans, six and seven deep,
pile up behind them.
Limousines stop
curbside, and from them emerge talent who seem too young to deserve this
much attention.
But who are we
kidding? This is the WB, the network that builds and thrives on young
stars. And it helps that all these stars act like stars.
"One more, one
more," the photographers shout to Mr. or Miss New Young Thing. He
or she obliges with a fresh smile and new pose before sauntering down the
red carpet another few feet, where the process is repeated by and for new
photographers.
Inside the restaurant,
the crowd is so thick that you wonder what kid of fire laws are being
broken. It's such a mass of people that it's impossible, if you get a
chance to move, not to bump into someone famously familiar.
Such was the case with
Marc Blucas, who plays Riley Finn, Buffy's boyfriend on Buffy The Vampire
Slayer. We also had another lucky run-in with Jason Behr, Max on Roswell.
Jason Behr
D.O.B: 12-30-73 in
Minneapolis, Minn.
Dossier: Appeared in his
first school play at age 5. He loves sports and attending
concerts. He must have a certain fondness for commercials - he's been
in more than 75 of them. Before becoming Max on Roswell, he
appeared in the Showtime series Sherman Oaks; made guest appearances
on Buffy, 7th Heaven, Profiler and JAG; appeared
in the movie Pleasantville; and co-starred in six episodes of Dawson's
Creek. Today, Los Angeles is home.
Q: What can you tell us
about the show this season?
A: We're going to try to
discover more about the alien mythology. The first season was the
exploration of their human side. The second season will be the
discovery of the alien side. Where that takes them they don't know
yet.
I just read the script
(for the season's first episode). If I could tell you anything about
it, it's just that there will be more people involved with the conspiracy
than we ever thought. It's not just one person out to get us. If
we've learned anything, it's that there's always a bigger fish, there's
always somebody bigger out there, ready to expose us and looking for us.
Q: How would you sum up
the relationship between Max (Behr's character) and Liz (Shiri Appleby)?
A: One of the most
interesting things about television is to watch two people in love and how
they overcome obstacles. Because something that important and unique
isn't always easy. If it's worth fighting for, you fight for it.
It's often a thrill to watch that struggle for greatness, that one great
relationship.
Q: Where will the
relationship go this season?
A: That relationship is
something that Max has been wanting his whole life, so he's not going to let
that go that easily, no matter what anybody tells him his destiny is.
He's much stronger than that. Even if it kills him, he's going to try
to keep that relationship going. After all, his feelings for Liz are
what got them all involved in this to begin with.
We might get away from
it to cater to the science fiction, but it will always be underneath the
surface somewhere. So if it's not the core of every episode, it will
always be there. Back
