OBSIDIAN FATE

With its archaelogical dig setting providing a nice change of location, Obsidian Fate also serves up some an interesting adversary in the shape of Aztec god Tezcatlipoca, and the threat of the world being plunged into perpetual darkness.

The dig concept also introduces us to the book's original characters, including Jenny Calendar substitute and lookalike Lucy Franks, and the members of Sunnydale High's History Club.

Naturally (for various reasons) the Slayerettes have all joined the club, and Giles finds himself as the club's faculty advisor to replace the missing Mr Coltrane.  And this being Sunnydale, you know what 'missing' actually means...

Dem Inglese apart, the other members of the club prove to be a little faceless, but's that's hardly surprising, especially since the regular characters are all presented and accounted for.  Even Joyce gets something more than usual to do, plus there are also appearances from a couple of other recurring characters from season 3.

All in all, Obsidian Fate is an enjoyable read and a lot more worthy of checking out than many other entries in the Buffy fiction line. BACK TO THE TOP
