The first
original Angel
novel sees Angel investigating a series of murders in Los Angeles, all of
which seem to have been caused by a form of spontaneous combustion.
And, of course, the LAPD's investigating officer just happens to be Kate
Lockley.
Meanwhile,
a job-hunting Cordelia meets up with an Indonesian businessman who just
happens to own a film studio, then a group of child pickpockets before
getting locked up.
Unsurprisingly,
the events are all linked, with someone intent on making sacrifices to the
Indonesian god Latura, in the usual quest for immortality.
Unfortunately, I found the guest characters involved completely
uninteresting, even more so than those in the average Buffy novel.
Of
course, things wouldn't be complete without some flashbacks to pad things
out. Not
Forgotten features plenty of these, including Angel in Ireland prior to
become a vampire - although just why he's called Angelus in these scenes is
a bit of mystery, especially when the flashback ended with the statement
that he will soon become Angelus.
Overall, not the best
start to the Angel original fiction range then. It's not
bad, but it's not that good either.
