You
know the drill. Buffy Summers moves to Sunnydale, meets her
new Watcher Rupert Giles and befriends Xander and Willow.
Oh, and there's the small matter of local vampire The Master trying
to open the portal between his world and ours.
At
the time, Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest
seemed stunning when Sky first showed them. Since then, they've
been eclipsed by some of the later episodes, but they still stand
up well as an cracking introduction to the series.
Sadly,
Richie Tankersley Cuckick's novelisation doesn't build on that.
Instead, we merely get the usual Pocket Books approach of the script
plus "he/she said" tagged on.
That
it's a relatively enjoyable read is more down to the quality of
the episodes themselves than the novelisation, as it's nothing to
write home about.
So,
the usual Buffy novelisation rules pretty much apply here
- if you haven't got the episodes on video or you're a completist,
then buy it, otherwise it's far from being a must-have. BACK
