Pocket
Books continue to serve up Buffy novelisations in their
usual three episodes to a book format, allegedly centering on
one character.
And,
unlike, say, The Willow Files, this collection is correctly
titled as all three episodes centre heavily on Angel, or rather
Angel and Angelus.
Nancy
Holder's novelisations of Surprise, Innocence
and Passion are pretty straightforward, and nothing to
really write home about.
Having
said that, at least the episodes themselves are all good stuff,
but Angel's voice-over in Passion is nowhere near as
good in print as on film. On the minus side, there's a
massive spoiler for the first part of Becoming which
has unfortunately slipped through the net.
It's
just a shame that with some of the pivotal season two episodes,
Surprise and Innocence and the Becoming
two-parter, Pocket Books are unwilling or unable to novelise
just the two linked episodes in the same volume and give us
something more than just the script with 'he said', 'she said'
tagged onto every line.
So,
as with the other Buffy novelisations this is a couple
of hours' reading at the most, and only really for completists
and those who haven't got the episodes on tape. Everyone
else can save their money towards something that's more a 'must-have'
than this. BACK
