PLOT
Out walking with
Xander, Willow is harassed by Joe Burgess who needs help with his
math. Defending her, Xander finds himself challenged to a
fight while a watching green creature in a tree salivates.
Joe fails to show due to getting a date but sends someone else to
kick Xander's ass.
The scorpion-like
creature turns out to be something faced by Giles' grandmother and
her Slayer, who scares Andy to death then goes after Joe while he's
making out with Harmony. Of course this being Sunnydale, the
Scooby Gang are on hand to dispatch the creature, with Giles slicing
its stinger off to kill it.
ART
Dire. Willow
looks more like a young version of Emma Peel from The Avengers,
while the rest of the gang are just as bad. And that's supposed
to be Harmony in the car? I'd never have guessed if it hadn't
said so...
The "audition"
sketches are the back are interesting but again nothing like Sarah
Michelle Gellar (although she allegedly approved them).
WRITING
You can't expect
too much to happen in something that's only two-thirds the length
of the regular comics, so I won't be too harsh. Even so, it's
nothing great - a monster of the week threat dispatched by the gang.
The Slayer Giles' grandmother watched over couldn't have been up
to much - the pair only just escaped with their lives but here with
the creature distracted by Buffy and Xander, Giles just slices its
tail off!
OVERALL
Given the limited
quantities of this one, it retails for far more than the regular
series ($7.95 against $2.95), but unless you're a real completist
then I'd be inclined to give this one a miss. BACK
