Yet again the two non-Angel
strips featured in Dark Horse Presents are pretty much a non-event as
far as I'm concerned, but at least the final part of Lovely, Dark and
Deep is up to the standard of the first two installments.
We left Angel and Cordy
surrounded with the demons masquerading as film producers looking like
they're going to get their hands on the Helm of Haraxis. We, of
course, know better...
While Angel gets to kick
ass for a couple of pages, Cordy and her surviving colleague find the Helm,
although the latter displays a startling lack of intelligence when the
demons, now in their human form, show up. Fortunately Cordy is on hand
to point this out to him, and while the demons grab hold of Casey, Cordy
grabs hold of the helm.
Putting the fact that it
allows the wearer to command the forces of darkness, Cordy neatly turns the
tables on the demonic pair, which is just as well considering Angel is
unlikely to win the fight.
The black and white artwork
is as effective as in the previous parts, and there are some nice lines from
Cordy ("I read the plot. Okay, skimmed") thrown in as well.
Although in total it was
only the same length as a single issue of the regular series, Lovely,
Dark and Deep has managed to be an entertaining, albeit pretty
straightforward story. It's just a shame about the other two-thirds of
DHP hasn't been as good.
