BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #17 : SHE'S NO LADY

PLOT

And so we venture once more into the saga that is Bad Blood. Finally Selke and the Doctor's plan to produce a clone of Buffy has worked, sadly the personality is more in line with Cordelia, and so the Clone is far more interested in buying clothes and her face than defeating the Slayer.

Meanwhile the Scooby gang have been given the task of making a Float, yet can't come up with any good ideas, although Giles suggests a clown, of course this being Xander's worst Nightmare Buffy and Willow think they should do something else.  Angel however in trying to find out who the new head vamp is in town has a Vampire in captive, and is torturing him for info.

As the torturing goes on Buffy decides to go for a run, only to be attacked by her double.  At first Buffy looks likely to win, when she throws nails into Buffy II's face.  Angered by this though Buffy II fights back, and it looks like she's killed Buffy.  Of course rather than taking her back to Selke, Buffy II is more concerned with fixing her face and so goes to see the Doc to fix her up.  The next day Buffy arrives back in school, and as Angel finally works out that Selke is back, Buffy suggests that the float be centred on clowns, looks like the Scooby Gang have a clone on their hands...

WRITING

Perhaps the most interesting part of the Bad Blood saga as everything finally hits the fan.  The clone is created, the clone fights Buffy, Buffy dies, the clone takes Buffy's place and Angel finally figures out who the new Head Vampire is.  Sadly though, we don't really care.  Everyone knows Buffy isn't dead, and its obvious the clone has taken Buffy's place, the only thing that hasn't happened is that Buffy meets Selke, and judging from the previews it looks like when they do there'll be a lot of dust.

ART

As always Richards does a great job distinguishing all the characters from one another.  That still means Cordelia and Oz look nothing like Charisma Carpenter and Seth Green, but it's an improvement on the previous Buffy artists

OVERALL

One of the better parts of the Bad Blood Saga, yet since most of the other parts were rubbish that doesn't make it good.  It seems to me this storyline would have been better carried out as a Graphic Novel or as a 3 - 4 issue mini series, as the people at Dark Horse are really dragging this out as much as they can.

NEXT ISSUE

Even more Bad Blood, and the most disgusting cover yet!
