BRENDON
ON SEASON 8
ADDED: 01.03.03
As
well as talking to Marti Noxon and James Marsters at the UPN
winter press preview, Science-Fiction Weekly also spoke
to Nicholas Brendon about the possibility of an eighth season
of Buffy. Clearly some of his comments have now been
superceded by the news that their won't be a season 8.
Nicholas
Brendon, are you signed for an eighth season of Buffy?
Brendon:
Am I signed on? Yes, I'm contracted for it. But is it going
to happen? I don't know.
Some
people have been saying it may be time to hang it up, that Buffy's
run its course.
Brendon:
Hang it up? Yeah, I don't know. Hey, listen, I'm having a great
time. I haven't heard that people think that this should be
the last year of the show. We are [technically] on year six,
because our first year was [as] a midseason replacement. So
if people think we should hang it up, well, then, fine, that's
what they think. But I haven't heard anyone think ... that we
should hang it up. We're having a great time, and it's still
a great show.
Are
you willing to do another season?
Brendon:
I would love to. I'm having a great time, you know? And since
I feel that we're on season six with a show that is as good
as our show, and especially with what it's done, six years of
a successful show is kind of like ending it ... a tad prematurely.
So I think we have some great stuff in it still, so whatever
happens happens, I'm not really sure, but I'm having a blast.
What's
going to happen with Xander this season?
Brendon:
He's the guy that doesn't have any powers. So he's just living
life, you know? And I think that's kind of like ... the baseline
of the show. Because everyone else has powers, and this is the
guy who is like muddling through and figuring stuff out normally.

BUFFY'S
END IS NIGH - REALLY
ADDED: 09.05.02. SOURCE: THE
COURIER-MAIL
Nicholas Brendon has spent the past six years of his life playing
the endearingly goofy Xander Harris in Buffy the Vampire
Slayer.
As
one of Buffy's best friends, Xander [has] been captured by a
man-eating praying mantis, and done Dracula's bidding after
the vampire forced the teen to become, in Xander-speak, his
"butt monkey".
But
now, Brendon is preparing himself for the inevitable. When Buffy's
cast and crew reconvene to shoot the seventh season in July,
they will be doing so for the last time.
After
season seven, Buffy will not be coming back from the
dead.
"It
sucks, because with how this year ended, and with what's gonna
happen next year, it's gonna go out on top," says Brendon
from Sydney, where he visited a sci-fi convention.
"We're
having a lot of fun doing it. This last year was my most fun
year doing the show. But that's life in showbiz, and I'll just
do something else."
The
reasons for Buffy ending are many - the stars, including
Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, will be out of contract
at the end of season seven - but the final blow has really been
dealt by the man Buffy fans consider to be something
of a god, series creator Joss Whedon.
Since
turning his critically lambasted Buffy the Vampire Slayer
feature film into a cult TV hit, Whedon has become increasingly
busy.
He
created the Buffy spin-off Angel and is now working
on another sci-fi action series, Firefly, reportedly
the most expensive pilot ever made for US TV.
"Joss
always wanted to be attached to it, and as his schedule's becoming
thinner, it's harder for him to be a part of the show,"
Brendon, 31, says.
"It
was his baby, so if he can't be a part of it like he wants to,
then it's just not gonna run.
"It's
gonna be really sad for me, 144 episodes and it's my first job.
I went through a lot of changes personally in that time, so
it's gonna be a teary goodbye."
For
Brendon, life after Buffy may include "some films
and probably a sitcom."
Still,Brendon
will have some fantastic memories. His favourite Buffy
adventures include the recent musical episode, and the time
Xander was split in two, with one half played by Brendon's identical
twin brother Kelly Donovan.
Donovan
(the brothers use their middle names instead of their surname
professionally) is now Brendon's stunt-double.
"His
first day of doing stunts, he dislocated his shoulder,"
Brendon recalls. "So then he got fired, I pleaded for them
to rehire him, and now he's been doing great."
For
this Gene Kelly fan, the musical episode where he delivered
an old-fashioned dance routine was also a blast.
As
for the season now showing on Australian TV, Brendon remains
tight-lipped.
How
will they top last season's cliffhanger, when Buffy was dead?
"Just
wait and see. This year's exciting, I can tell you that. People
die!"

TO THE FUTURE 4 DEBUNKED
07.09.2001
- It looks as though AICN were off-beam with the story
below with writer/director Bob Gale telling BTTF.com
that recent rumours of a fourth film are untrue.
"No
one at Universal or Amblin ever asked Bob [Zemeckis] or me to
think about a Part 4; and certainly Steven Spielberg would never
consider the prospect without our involvement. Years ago,
Bob and I would kick it around, but we couldn't do it without
Michael J. Fox, and Michael just isn't in any condition to do
something like that. I can't believe the fans would want
to see a Part 4 without Michael in it either - as a fan, I certainly
wouldn't. It would smell too cheap. There will not
be a Part 4." BACK

TO THE FUTURE 4?
03.09.2001
- According to Ain't It Cool News, Nicholas Brendon is
being mentioned for the lead in Back to the Future 4.
The site also claims that the movie will be more of a spin-off
than a sequel to the first three films, with Doc and Marty only
appearing in a limited form. Tobey Maguire has also been
mentioned for the lead role. THANKS

EW
INTERVIEW
16.05.2001
- As resident wiseacre Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
Nicholas Brendon spent this season cracking jokes on the sidelines
while the rest of the gang cast spells and slaughtered bad guys.
But Xander's lounging days may be over. Buffy will need
all the help she can get to fend off the evil god Glory as this
season concludes with a deadly showdown (airing Tues., May 22,
8pm on the WB). EW.com talked to Brendon, 30, about what
may be in store for the series as it jumps networks next fall
to UPN.
Xander's
been kinda quiet lately. What's going on?
He's
really been in the background for the last three years.
Last year he was finding himself, and this year he became more
of a man. He got a job, got out of the basement, and he's
fallen in love. I don't know what'll happen. The
only thing I might hope for Xander is that he gets sent to a
tropical island for a couple months. That would be cool.
Buffy
has been dealing with death and loss. Has that been
tough on the cast?
It's
actually rather interesting. After reading the episode...
I thought that show was going to be a really heavy set.
But it was exactly the opposite. It was a light mood,
and people were laughing. It opened up a topic that we
wouldn't have talked about before, because it's kind of a weird
question, like, "Have you ever dealt with death before?"
Because if you ask that, then you become that weird morbid guy.
People start saying, "Yeah, Nick's real Goth, what's THAT
about?"
How
do you feel about Buffy switchinig to a new network?
We
had relationships at the WB, so it's kind of weird to leave.
But we did get a lovely get basket from UPN with a Cartier watch
and Champagne and Beluga caviar. We didn't get much respect
from the WB because they saw the show not as an ensemble, but
as Sarah's show. When we had our 100th episode celebration,
they thanked Sarah, and then 10 minutes later they thanked the
rest of the cast, too.
What
are your plans for the summer?
Well,
I'm NOT doing a movie. I like my sanity, and I'm getting
married this September [see previous story], so I'd rather not
sit in a trailer for three months during my time off.
This summer my fiancée [actress Tressa DiFiglia] and I are going
to Europe for five weeks, and for the honeymoon we want to go
somewhere tropical.
Are
you planning a big Hollywood wedding?
Oh,
yeah. We're getting married September 1, so we've got
our rings all ready and we're doing the invitations now.
And we've got material for the bridesmaids, because we're going
to make them sew their own dresses. And there's going
to be a cover charge. Ten dollars on the door. But
seriously, Tressa and I are getting married at her parents'
ranch in Carlsbad. In Style is going to come and
take pictures of the ceremony. One of the stipulations
is that we don't want to know they're there. I want them
to wear camouflage, with little hats with real branches coming
out of them.
Your
real life identical twin, Kelly, appeared with you in an episode
of Buffy earlier this year. Any plans to work together
again?
If
something good comes up, but I don't want to be the adult equivalent
of the Olsen twins. Or maybe we could do a TV movie with
the Olsen twins and they could play our romantic interests!
It would be very David Lynch-y. I'll talk to my people
and get right on it. Kelly has blond hair right now, so
it's pretty easy to tell us apart. At least Tressa can.
Except for that one time when she and Kelly had sex, but she
apologised for that.
Is
it strange for Kelly that you share the same face but have very
different careers?
Everything
takes some getting used to, both the good and the bad.
Buffy is pretty much my first acting role except for
a part on Dave's World, so I got lucky getting this role
when I had no tape or résumé to speak of. So I think I've
spent the last five years proving that the part was mine.
But it's tough because Kelly's in between jobs a lot and sometimes
he has a rough time paying his rent, and here I am looking like
I'm swimming in money.
Xander's
getting an action figure. Have you seen it yet?
I
haven't. I just found out I was the very last action figure
they made. I guess it's because my character is just a
normal guy, not a witch or a werewolf or a Watcher. It
makes sense, but it still hurt! It's going to come out
in about a month, and I have a feeling they're going to sell
out on day one. There's going to be a back order, I'm
telling you. SOURCE: EW.COM. BACK

THE
ART OF BEING NICHOLAS BRENDON
06.02.2001
- Oh, behave: "It's great playing the far-out funny
guy on Buffy, but I also like that Xander is changing
a lot. He seems to be getting more mature, which helps
because I'm so not."
The
dating game: "I did that single thing for a short while,
and it's just really not fun. It's really lonely and very
shallow, and this is probably going to sound funny, but I'm
a bit deeper than shallow."
Twin
peaks and valleys: "Sometimes it's tough having a twin.
The love is so intense but so is the hate."
Home
improvements: "My girlfriend, Tressa, and I are remodelling
our new house. It's very humbling. I love Tim Allen,
but I can barely manage hanging a picture without leaving eight
holes in the wall."
Nurse,
hand me the spatula: "My latest obsession is cooking.
I buy a new cookbook every week. I'm into making everything.
Cookies, pies and I just did my first duck. If you're
having people over, the secret to it is butter, butter, butter.
It works every time. Just don't tell any of the guests."
