WB wants more Angel?

According to Cinescape, new WB chairman Garth Ancier has spoken to Joss Whedon about doing "something" with Angel, be it the series of spinoff movies the network was supposedly interested in when it cancelled the series last season, or even bringing the show back.

Joss is apparently open for more stories, but comments from David Boreanaz seem to suggest that he's moved on, although who knows if a bigger pay cheque may tempt him to return to the role.

But that isn't the only problem according to an insider. "Most people have moved on. The creators of The Mountain are impressed with James Marsters and are hoping he'll stay on, David Boreanaz is solid-booked with films, and Amy Acker is hanging out for Superman. (Yep, Amy got a call-back for Lois Lane in Superman. She has good chemistry with B.J. Routh, the young actor that's playing Superman apparently. Her agent is pushing and pushing for this to happen which might or might not work in Am's favour."

"Yes, there will be more Angel - just hard to say when. If Amy gets Superman - she's out, if James stays on The Mountain - that'll be a juggle, and if David Boreanaz gets any more anti-Angel, they'll have to recast."

"It's interesting the way it has ended up: WB dying for more Angel, the cast and crew gone on to bigger and better things...who's had the last laugh?"

(As a side-note, although former Angel regular Charisma Carpenter is one of the alleged final six for the role of Lois Lane, Amy Acker isn't. Did she audition for the part of Lois and fail to make the shortlist or is the source simply getting their wires crossed?) back to the top

UK press hails Dalek "revolution"

Never one to let the facts get in the way of a good story, the Daily Mirror reports that the new series of Doctor Who will feature flying Daleks for the first time, ignoring the fact that they were seen to hover in 1985's Revelation of the Daleks and ascend stairs in 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks.

The BBC insider quoted reveals: "The Daleks were always the Doctor's scariest enemy - but now they can rise up from the ground and cause all sorts of havoc. The Doctor will have his work cut out."

"We're using more special effects and have given the Daleks three jet-powered thrusters to take off, although otherwise they still look the same."

It remains to be seen whether this story is as true as the Mirror's other Who stories. back to the top

Tru Calling cancelled

According to its star Eliza Dushku, Fox's Tru Calling has officially been cancelled.

The series' future was already in doubt after its season 2 order was slashed from 13 episodes to just six, but apparently the news is now confirmed.

The Supporttrucalling.com website says that Eliza and Shawn Reaves (Harrison) appeared at the London Movie, Comic and Media Expo and broke the news there. According to Reaves, it's going to take a fight for fans to even see the remaining six episodes.

Most of the show's producers have been lucky enough to find work elsewhere, and rumours are bound to increase about a possible Faith-led Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off. back to the top

Whedon stakes X-Men 3 rumours

The Whedonverse website reports that Joss Whedon won't be directing X-Men 3, despite earlier rumours to the contrary. Instead, he is working on a new screenplay which is not based on anything he has done before.

On the subject of a Faith spin-off, Ain't It Cool News claims that he's "salivating" to do, so it may well depend on whether Eliza Dushku is keen to return to the role now that Tru Calling has been cancelled. back to the top

Joss out of ideas - and TV

Meanwhile, Variety reports that Whedon is getting out of the TV business - at least for the time being. The trade paper claims that Joss has shuttered his Mutant Enemy production company because he says he has run out of ideas. "I spent a lot of time trying to think what my next series would be," Whedon said. "I couldn't think of anything. When that happens, it generally means something is just not working." For now, Whedon will continue to focus on films - including the forthcoming Firefly movie, Serenity. back to the top
