CHARMED RATINGS FOR IT'S A BAD, BAD, BAD, BAD WORLD
17 MAY 2004

Ratings for Sunday 16 May

In a huge blow for CBS, three-hour made-for, HELTER SKELTER, was left at the starting gate with a mere 6.2/9 from 8-11pm. The movie ranked fourth in the overnights in the 8pm hour, and a distant third from 9-11pm. Comparatively, retention out of lead-in 60 MINUTES (#1: 8.5/15) was just 73 percent.

ABC's SUPER MILLIONAIRE scored a respectable 8.4/13 at 9pm. Comparably, that was a competitive second in the hour behind NBC's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT (10.6/15), with growth out of lead-in EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION (7.5/12) of 12 percent.

In series finale news, although ABC's THE PRACTICE perked up to an 8.8/14 at 10pm, it still wasn't enough to beat NBC's competing CROSSING JORDAN (9.4/15).

Earlier in the evening, the first hour of NBC's expanded DATELINE (5.6/10) bested AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS on ABC (4.8/9) by 17 percent. Overall, DATELINE averaged a 6.5/11 from 7-9pm.

On Fox, it was diluted Sunday business as usual with the combination of KING OF THE HILL (7pm repeat: 2.8/5; 7.30pm: 3.9/7), THE SIMPSONS (6.4/10), THAT '70S SHOW (5.6/8), MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE (5.0/7) and a repeat of THE SIMPSONS (4.7/7).

Over at The WB, the two-hour season finale of CHARMED proved its worth with a healthy 4.6/7 from 8-10pm. Comparably, that was 156 percent ahead of repeat lead-in SMALLVILLE: BEGINNINGS (1.8/4).
