PLAYBOY PICS RULE OUT CHARISMA AS WONDER WOMAN?
06 MAY 2004

While appearing in Playboy can often start or restart an actress' character, Charisma Carpenter's photo shoot might just have ruled her out of the running for the part of Wonder Woman.

At a recent convention, comic writers Greg Rucka, Drew Johnson, and Dan Didio fielded questions ranging from storylines to sales to junior partners getting their own books.

When asked about movies, Rucka expressed mild frustration at the ability of Warner Brothers to successfully adapt DC characters to film, pointing to X2 as an example of a film which takes its comic book characters seriously and portrays them honestly.

Asked how much control DC has over characters like Wonder Woman being translated into other media, Didio said, "The real influence we have on other media is to tell the best stories we can."

Rucka also commented that one-time frontrunner (in the eyes of some fans, at least) for the role of Wonder Woman, Charisma Carpenter more than likely ruined her chances by posing nude for Playboy.

Since her introduction in 1941, DC Comics has portrayed Wonder Woman as an almost squeaky clean character, so it's hardly surprising if Charisma's nude photoshoot has had a negative impact on her chances of getting the role. On the other hand, this is just the opinion of one writer, and doesn't necessarily reflect the views of DC as a whole, Warner Brothers, or those developing the film.

(Ironically, Lynda Carter, who starred in the 1970s WONDER WOMAN TV series later starred in the film I POSED FOR PLAYBOY, in which she plays a wife who poses for Playboy. You wouldn't have guessed that from the title, would you? And no, she doesn't get her kit off.) BACK TO THE TOP
