NEW WHEDON SERIES IN THE WORKS?
2 MAY 2004

At the start of the 2002-03 season, Joss Whedon had three series on US TV networks. Now he has just one, and that's ending later this month.

However, during a Q&A session at a convention in Cleveland, Nicholas Brendon let slip that Joss is working on another show. When asked what it was called he mumbled something like "Brothers" but then said he didn't know.

Brendon also claimed that a BUFFY movie is going to happen, and it's just a question of when, which contradicts recent comments by Sarah Michelle Gellar that it was better to let the franchise go out on a high. He also mentioned a BUFFY cartoon that he, Alyson Hannigan and Anthony Stewart Head will be doing the voices for might be picked up soon, which contradicts reports that the animated series was dead. (Sadly, it might just be the case that Brendon's other problems are behind these confusing comments.)

At the same convention, Mercedes McNab said that ANGEL is dead as an ongoing series but she did hear about the TV movies. She even started cry when talking about the show's end. However, other sources have claimed that The WB has no intention of producing any ANGEL TVMs, and that it's just a ploy to deflect fan criticism over the show's cancellation.

Anthony Head talked about the RIPPER spin-off series, claiming that he and Joss talk about it every time they see each other. It is supposed to start off as a 2 hour TV movie, but exactly which network would be interested in a series based on a supporting character in a series that only pulled in around 3-4 million viewers remains a mystery. And surely the chances of the BBC committing to a production or co-production deal were higher when BUFFY was actually in production?

Morena Baccarin said that the FIREFLY movie would start filming in June and that it will show more back story on Inara and Book. She also said that as far as she knows everyone is back for the movie.
