RATINGS NEWS FOR ORIGIN With LAW & ORDER at the helm, NBC won Wednesday in the overnights, beating second-place Fox by an average 12 percent. Thanks to AMERICAN IDOL, however, Fox remains the network to beat on Wednesday in adults 18-49, with a hefty 39 percent advantage in the demo over second-place ABC. Fox also inched past NBC in viewers. As usual, AMERICAN IDOL took top-rated honours of the evening with a 14.4/21 in the overnights, 20.39 million viewers and an 8.9/25 among adults 18-49 at 8.30pm. Helped by what you could call the pre-tune-in factor, veteran THAT '70S SHOW was first in the 8pm half-hour among adults 18-49 with a 4.6/15. Comparatively, that was a considerable 59 percent above the first half of NBC repeat special MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS ON LIVE TV (#2: 2.9/9). Based on the overnights, MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENTS ON LIVE TV (repeat, 7.6/12) was first in the 8pm half-hour, followed by THAT '70S SHOW (7.2/11), ABC's MY WIFE AND KIDS (5.8/9), and the first half of CBS's 60 MINUTES II (6.4/10), The WB's SMALLVILLE (4.4/7) and UPN's STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE (3.1/5). Sticking with the overnights, and based on the 8pm hour, Fox's combination of THAT '70S SHOW and AMERICAN IDOL averaged a first-place 10.8/16, followed by MOST OUTRAGEOUS MOMENT ON LIVE TV (repeat, 7.6/12), 60 MINUTES II (6.1/10), two episodes of MY WIFE AND KIDS (original and repeat: 5.6/9), SMALLVILLE (4.6/7) and STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE (3.1/5). At 9pm, although NBC's THE WEST WING remains first in the overnights with a diluted 9.4/14, among adults 18-49 the declining political drama was a distant third with a 3.4/9 in the demo.
