The first three installments of Haunted have set up several things that part four needed to tie up, including the meaning of Faith's "you're already dead" line to Buffy, the Mayor's threat and his capture by the Initiative at the end of part three.

After the opening page focuses on the Mayor/Initiative setting, it's a while before we see this resolved, but it's worth waiting for as Jane Espenson neatly ties the comics into the television series by referencing the fate of Adam and Room 314.

Buffy gets another dreamscape showdown against Faith, and the meaning of her "you're already dead" phrase is finally explained.

I finally finished reading Haunted the day after the Doctor Who season 27 finale revealed the meaning of the "Bad Wolf" mystery that had run throughout it. That explanation struck me as a bit rubbish, but Espenson pulls her explanation it off much better.

The Mayor's threat to Buffy is obviously resolved, and credit to Espenson for leaving the Scooby Gang in the dark as to who they were facing.

As you'd expect, Espenson has a good handle on the characters, although Giles' line about being too tired to clean his glasses seemed a bit too self-aware.

The artwork is fine, with the television characters all perfectly recognisable.

Overall, a decent ending to an enjoyable mini-series that fits neatly into the gap between seasons 3 and 4. back to the top
